New Hanover County Fire Rescue Department is a government based fire department for New Hanover County, located on the Southeast coast of North Carolina. The county has a year round population of over 180,000, which increases substantially during the peak season months of May through October. NHCFR is a combination department consisting of full time, part time, and volunteer staff. New Hanover County contracts with several volunteer firefighting agencies to help provide fire protection for the un-incorporated areas of New Hanover County. NHCFR responds to an average of over 6700 emergency calls per year which consist of emergency medical, fire suppression, automobile accidents, technical rescues, and Hazardous Materials.
